The Hygeaire principal application of germicidal ultraviolet has been the use of upper room air disinfection fixtures to purify the upper room air in occupied spaces in order to reduce the risk of cross infection and exposure of occupants to infectious airborne microbes. These fixtures are designed to project the ultraviolet rays across the upper room air thereby destroying bacteria and viruses that are carried into the ultraviolet field by convection currents or air circulation. 

It is an important requirement when applying Indirect Germicidal ultraviolet irradiation to upper air to keep the radiation in the occupied level (below 6-1/2" feet) within acceptable limits (0.2 micro watts per square centimeter for an eight-hour exposure is a standard set by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists), so mounting in the appropriate position is essential for safe use.

All Ster-L-Ray lamps used in Hygeaire Ultraviolet Air Disinfection Units are low pressure type which afford the maximum efficiency in producing the required germicidal rays. In addition to the obvious advantages of high efficiency and low power requirements, there is no possibility of the unit overheating (as is the case with some other lamp types). Consequently, the need for additional equipment to combat overheating is eliminated.

Ster-L-Ray germicidal lamps are short wave, low pressure mercury vapor discharge tubes that produce ultraviolet wavelengths lethal to microorganisms. OBSERVATION PORTS
A visible glow through the clear sight glass provides positive indication of germicidal lamp operation.
An Observation Port in 1 or 2 inch sight glass assemblies is supplied with each unit. This is to be installed in the duct wall for visual indication of lamp operation.

The AeroLogic Air Duct Disinfection units mount with universal standard bracket. The (2) most common positions are shown below (units are perpendicular to air flow). Many other mounting positions can be achieved with the universal brackets that are included with each unit.
